Celebrating our 5th Anniversary

Celebrating our 5th Anniversary

The Alumni Choir has been in existence for quite some time supporting school and church choir activities, it was formally established in 2012, and since then, the alumni choir has expanded their choir members and activities covering many aspects in support of community, education and religious.

2017 marked the 5th anniversary of the formal formation of alumni choir, and we have begun a series of celebration activities throughout the year.  The first celebration was in April where we have all alumni choir members, and friends in music gathered together for the celebration dinner.  It was a very enjoyable evening with fun, brotherhood, review of the past, and forward planning about the alumni choir.

Continuing the celebration is the landmark concert event by the Alumni Choir, to be held at the Hong Kong City Hall Concert Hall on Wednesday, the 1st of November, commencing at 8:00 p.m.

Nine different choral groups will perform in the concert, and conductors for the evening are the legendary SPC icons Mr. Raymond Fu and Mr. Joe Chan.

One of the featured events in the anniversary concert will be the Alumni Choir singing with the DSOBA (Diocesan School Old Boys Choir) and the HYOGA (Heep Yunn Old Girls’ Association Choir).

Perhaps the most anticipated highlight of the evening will be the piano duet performed by Mary Mei Loc Wu and Gabriel Kwok. These performers need no introduction as they are both SPC musical royalty. Mary Wu is the daughter of our eminent music master, the late Reverend Moses Wu, under whose tutelage the school became well-known for its music programmes.

Reverend Wu is the composer of the beloved College Song, and Dr. Wu, who received her doctorate in music from the State University of New York, was hailed by Ravel’s protégé, the late Vlado Perlemuter as “one of the most gifted pianists of her generation”, Mary Wu was also praised by Yehudi Menuhin as having “a captivating poetical quality to her playing.” We are honored to have her with us to celebrate the SPC alumni choir’s 5th anniversary, performing a duet with Mr Gabriel Kwok, SPC alumnus and head of Keyboard Studies at the Hong Kong Academy for the Performing Arts. Professor Kwok was awarded the Medal of Honour from the Hong Kong Government in 2014 for his contribution to piano education in Hong Kong.

Tickets for the concert are available from Urbtix at $500, $280, and $180 each, with concessionary seating at 50% off for seniors, full time students, and people with disabilities.

We encourage you to act quickly to obtain tickets for this unforgettable event.
